This is a question we often hear at barasport city apartments, where we specialize in daily apartment rentals. And the answer is clear — no, you cannot rent an apartment without adult supervision if you are under 18.
We understand that many teenagers are quite independent — some work, some travel, and some simply want to relax in comfort. But as an apart-hotel, we are required to follow not only our internal policies but also the laws of Ukraine. Under Ukrainian law, individuals under 18 are considered minors and are not legally permitted to enter into short-term rental agreements on their own.
Renting an apartment in Kyiv for a day is more than just spending the night. When you book an apartment, you’re actually entering into a rental agreement, which involves legal responsibility for the property, compliance with house rules, and timely payment. This kind of responsibility must be legally binding — and that is only possible for adults.
From time to time, we do get inquiries from teenagers trying to book on their own. For example, a 17-year-old might call and say he just needs a place to sleep for the night, promising to be quiet and respectful. We don’t doubt his intentions, but as the rental provider, we are not allowed to check him in without the presence of a parent or legal guardian. If something happens — equipment goes missing, furniture gets damaged, or even if neighbors complain — resolving the situation would be extremely difficult.
The Civil Code of Ukraine clearly states: individuals between 14 and 18 can only enter into a limited range of contracts, and only with written consent from a parent or guardian. Renting real estate is not included in that list.
The phrase “can I rent an apartment for a day if I’m under 18” is one of the most searched queries online, and we completely understand why. Many young people are striving for independence. But as an apart-hotel, we are responsible not only for service but also for the safety and legal protection of all guests.
If you’re under 18 but still need accommodation, the best solution is to ask a parent or another adult relative to book the apartment and check in with you. They can officially sign the rental agreement in their name. This is a completely normal and acceptable practice. But booking on your own without adult involvement — or trying to rent without a passport — is something we cannot allow.
